A 2007 study by Laura Kubzansky (an associate professor at the Harvard School of Public Health) that followed more than 6,000 men and women aged 25 to 74 for 20 years found that emotional vitality – a sense of enthusiasm, of hopefulness, of engagement in life, and the ability to face life’s stresses with emotional balance – reduces the risk of coronary heart disease.

Here’s what she related this to her own life:
“When I’m playing piano, I’m in the moment. I’m not worrying or thinking or trying to work out a problem. I’m just doing this thing that takes all my attention.”
“Everyone needs to find a way to be in the moment, to find a restorative state that allows them to put down their burdens.”

It’s official, positive people live longer.
So if you’ve been feeling a little negative lately, or pessimistic about the state of the world, it’s time to make a change, today!

A 30-year study of 447 people at the Mayo Clinic found that optimists had around a 50 percent lower risk of early death than pessimists.
In short this means that mind and body are linked. If the mind is overly negative, it makes the body sick.

Another study by Yale University asked 660 elderly people whether they agreed that we become less useful as we age. Those who didn't agree, and therefore had the most positive attitude about aging, lived an average of 7.5 years longer than those with the most negative attitudes toward aging.

A Dutch study on the relationship between optimism and mortality examined the attitudes and longevity of 999 people over the age of 65. The study reported that people with a positive attitude lived longer.

Well, too much stress is bad. It makes us frustrated, angry, and negative. Life becomes a chore and we spend all our energy on being in a negative state.
